Spectral ducking: when it beats static EQ

Dynamic spectral space is useful when the conflict exists mainly while the lead is active.

Diagnosis

  1. Identify the competing bus, not every track.
  2. Find the smallest band that changes intelligibility.
  3. Compare attack and release against syllables, not only the tempo grid.

Decision

  1. Start with shallow reduction.
  2. Trigger action only while the lead is present.
  3. Bypass at matched level every few changes.

Measurement boundary

Gain-reduction amount is not a quality score; use the minimum that resolves the collision.

Common failure: Fast, deep spectral ducking can imprint the vocal envelope onto the whole instrumental.
